The future of comics

April 2, 2009

There is a great discussion going on over at The Daily Cartoonist. Just check the comments section of the article detailing the upcoming AAEC Convention (The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists).

The future of the editorial cartoon is a very shaky one. It looks inevitable that newspapers will go the way of the Dodo and therefore the comics that reside within them will also perish.

Quite simply…  the answer to our prayers or Satan in disguise?! Its fate is its own to decide.  This could be a huge success or a gargantuan failure.  If successful this would revolutionize the way games are marketed, sold and experienced.  Guess we will just have to wait and see….

The Legend of Zelda: Tesla Coil of Time

Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing the Zelda theme song….

“The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software. What is not obvious is how loud the coils are. They are well over 110dB. Listen for the echo after the notes stop. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson. Programming and musical content by Steve Ward. Video was captured by Terry Blake and edited by Jeff Larson.”

Pretty amazing!

More than meets the expectations!

March 19, 2009

You may not be surprised to find out that Transformers 3 is being worked on even before the second chapter of the story has been released.  This was pretty much a given considering that almost every movie franchise nowadays shoots to have at least a trilogy.  However you may be surprised to discover that not only is it being worked on but its apparently far enough along to have a release date. I personally didn’t expect them to be far enough along with it to announce a release date.  The July 1st, 2011 is the date to mark on your calendar.

Who are the characters? What is the storyline? We won’t know and can’t even  really begin to guess until we’ve seen the end of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which releases July 24th of this year.

Apple wants so desperately to be percieved as better than Microsoft and then they go and pull shit like this…

The new iPod Shuffle is controlled soley by the headset.  I special little touch pad is attached to the headset chord and requires the user to push a series of three buttons for different lengths of time and different combinations to issue certain commands.  The new shuffle offers no other means of control so it will be necessary for third party headphones to include this pain in the ass interface.  However Apple doesn’t have any intentions of letting the manufacturers to have this technology for free.  Apple has stated that they intend to charge a lisencing fee to anyone who wants to build some of these.
