The Legend of Zelda: Tesla Coil of Time

March 23, 2009

Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing the Zelda theme song….

Vodpod videos no longer available.

more about “”, posted with vodpod

“The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software. What is not obvious is how loud the coils are. They are well over 110dB. Listen for the echo after the notes stop. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson. Programming and musical content by Steve Ward. Video was captured by Terry Blake and edited by Jeff Larson.”

Pretty amazing!

Indie games are awesome!

January 28, 2009

As proof I bring forth an indie game I recently stumbled upon called “The Legend of Princess”.

Quite certainly a thinly veiled homage to the Legend of Zelda series. Particularly “Zelda II: The Adventure of Link”(although not nearly as frustrating or soul destroying).

As you can see, “Legend of Princess” it’s beautifully crafted in 16 bit graphics and plays in a pseudo RPG/platformer side scrolling fashion. The animations are fantastic and the game overall feels very comfortable. It may not be challenging, but it provides a small escape in the form of mindless fun. And of course Zelda fans will enjoy the fun quirks and similarities with the actual series.

Here is a handy link in which you can partake in the limited(only one level) fun.

And of course the creator, whom we have to thank for this little gem.
